New and Old Territory

Well…

We’re here! We’re not settled, but we are here nonetheless.

There have been so many things going on that I haven’t sat down long enough to look at email let alone write anything to anyone.

Our adventures have gone somewhat like this since I last put out a blog post:

Can just barely see the lights on the outskirts of Anchorage. And the sun is peeking on the horizon.

We arrived in Anchorage early morning of December 28th, 2021. We were actually arrived late due to leaving Hawaii late. Apparently, the flights were delayed over much of the country because of severe weather issues. We had no idea the kind of effect weather would have on a direct flight from Hawaii to Anchorage, but it did.

After sitting in the airport for 6 hours and then a 6-hour flight, we were done.

We spent the day with my brother running hither to yon. We had to get our truck title moved into our name and get insurance.

We had to get our little bird, Yzma (it’s a green cheek conure) out of the carry-on she had spent nearly 24 hours inside of. This presented a load of fun for the bird since my brother and his grandkids have a cat. Yzma’s encounter with a cat was…well….more excitement than she was interested in. The cat was having a blast with a trapped play toy right there for the taking.

We moved through all the fun stuff that takes up a day in the life of getting reoriented to colder weather conditions. Then we met with our kids and grandson to have dinner. Needless to say, we were so wiped out by the time we got checked into the hotel that I don’t think either Jon or I lasted more than 5 minutes after hitting the bed.

The next day was full of gathering supplies, getting another key for our truck made. Already being mostly familiar with our surroundings made the running around easier. Not that Anchorage hasn’t changed! Oh, yes, there have been changes. But, the basics were the same.

The more difficult thing to get used to….again….was our ice legs (or wheels as the case may be). Not only was walking on the ice an adventure we distinctly remembered but driving on ice is an experience that one seems to never forget.

By the 3oth, hitting the road was the grand plan. Of course, we had made a run by Costco the day before and had spotted a couple of recliners we decided to think on overnight. By morning we knew they were going to work very well and knew we just had to wait for Costco to open. So we started packing up the truck and signing out of the hotel. We were so thankful my brother was going down with us. We were able to split our load with the two trucks and then run to Costco and picked up the recliners.

We were on the road to Soldotna by noon. We were so excited to be on the way. Check some of these pictures!

By about 3pm on the 30th of December, we arrived at our temporary home. We have so much to be thankful for! Safe travels, wonderful family and great scenery! Thank you everyone for you thoughts and prayers for our journey. It’s been a blessing!

Hey Friends,

Nearly all my quilts have a story in them. I plan to share as many as I remember with you. The ups the downs the..."whoops! What was I thinking"...moments.

As I move along I hope to inspire and encourage your journey in quilts.

Most of all, let's have fun!

Thank you so much for reading! Please feel free to leave your comments below!

Much love, Carolyn
